Bio

Attorney Michael J. Watton is the senior partner at Watton Law Group, S.C. As a nationally renowned bankruptcy lawyer, he is admitted to practice in Wisconsin, Missouri, Colorado, Utah, Florida, Ohio, New York, Virginia, Arkansas, Kansas, and Arizona. He has received the prestigious AV® Rating from Martindale-Hubbell®, the highest peer-review rating attainable. He is recognized by both his peers and his clients as a dedicated and compassionate attorney with a deep commitment to helping individuals, families, and business owners find balance and financial freedom.

Attorney Watton earned his undergraduate degree in finance, graduating with highest honors from the University of Florida in 1987.

This background has served as the foundation of his legal practice—the same ideas that pertain to the value of a business can be applied to the economic value of the individual. Attorney Watton believes that a person’s economic value is their net cash value—the difference between the value of one’s work for mankind’s benefit and the cost (housing/food/rent/transportation, etc.) to create that value. He helps his clients see how the cash flow they make can be greater than the cash flow they use to live, as well as helping others not only increase their value, but also better see their value as human beings.

In his practice, Attorney Watton strives to help people who come to him, distraught over difficult financial situations out of their control. He provides practical, logical solutions. He seeks to help his clients refocus on net cash flow and utilize available legal means to balance their cash flows, reduce the outflows and increase the inflows through specific debt elimination. In doing so, Mr. Watton helps his clients answer the question: “What is my value?” He utilizes bankruptcy laws simply as tools to help individual people realize their value----to themselves, their families, and their communities.

In his own practice, and in his life, Attorney Watton feels the greatest value in helping others through difficult times so that they can not only navigate immediate financial challenges, but also go on to thrive in the various aspects of their lives. Though he has earned numerous accolades throughout his expansive career, Attorney Watton finds the greatest reward in adding value to the world by helping others realize their own.

Attorney Watton grew up in New York City, NY and Fort Lauderdale, FL. After receiving his undergraduate degree from the University of Florida, he went on to attend law school at Duke University School of Law in Durham, NC. After graduating with his Juris Doctor in 1990, he was admitted to practice in numerous state courts, as well as federal courts in the Eastern and Western Districts of Wisconsin, Eastern and Western Districts of Missouri, the District of Kansas, the Southern District Illinois, the District of Colorado, the District of Utah, the District of Arizona, the Eastern and Western Districts of Arkansas, the Eastern District of Virginia and the United States 7th and 8th Circuit Courts of Appeals.

Attorney Watton has been married for over 30 years and has three driven and successful children. He is a dog lover and, in his free time, enjoys spending time with his family and loved ones.
